Eight Cuts of Kentucky Country Ham, One Box

The whole country ham experience in one gift box: two packs each of biscuit slices, center steaks, and peppered country bacon, plus seasoning hocks and sliced Hillbilly Prosciutto. Eight packs in all, from Broadbent's of Kuttawa, Kentucky, curing hams the same way since 1909 and a 23-time Grand Champion at the Kentucky State Fair.

It's the easiest way to try country ham for the first time, and an easy gift for anyone who grew up on it. Everything is dry-cured and hickory smoked, ships without ice, and keeps for months on the pantry shelf, so it works for a birthday, a thank-you, Father's Day, or just because. Breakfast, dinner, and the charcuterie board, all covered.

Salty by nature. Here's how to handle it.

Everything in this box is dry-cured with salt and hickory smoke, not injected with water like a spiral ham, a honey-baked ham, or grocery store bacon. That's why it keeps without refrigeration, and it's why it tastes the way it does. Expect it to be noticeably saltier than anything from the grocery store.

  • Slice thin, serve small. Two or three thin pieces is a serving. Think prosciutto, not a holiday ham slab.
  • Soak if you like. Steaks and biscuit slices: 30 minutes to 2 hours in cold water or milk, then pat dry. Optional. Plenty of folks skip it.
  • Let it do the seasoning. Skip added salt in anything you cook with it, especially the pot the hocks go into. One hock per pot is plenty. Pair it with biscuits, eggs, grits, beans, greens, or something sweet like honey or apple butter.
  • Cook the bacon low and slow. Dry-cured bacon carries less water, so it browns fast. Medium-low heat keeps it from going from crisp to scorched.

FAQ

Is it a good gift?
Yes. It ships without ice, keeps for months, and needs no special handling when it arrives. It covers breakfast, dinner, and the charcuterie board, so there's something in it for every kind of cook.

Is it salty?
Yes. Everything in the box is dry-cured with salt, the way country ham has always been made. Serve small portions, soak the steaks and slices if you'd like them milder, and skip added salt in whatever you cook with it.

Does it need to be refrigerated?
Not until opened. It ships at room temperature and may arrive warm. That's normal for salt-cured products.

Does it need to be cooked?
The prosciutto is ready to eat. The biscuit slices, steaks, and bacon cook in a skillet in a few minutes, and the hocks go into a pot of beans or greens.

Shipping & storage

Ships unrefrigerated and may arrive warm. That's normal for dry-cured meat. USDA inspected.

Unopened, it keeps up to 3 months at room temperature, 6 months refrigerated, or 12 months frozen. Refrigerate after opening.

Cooking & serving
  • Biscuit slices and center steaks: fry in a hot cast-iron skillet 1 to 2 minutes a side. Soak in milk or water first if you want less salt. Use the drippings with a splash of coffee for red-eye gravy.
  • Pepper bacon: start in a cold pan and cook over medium-low heat. Dry-cured bacon browns fast.
  • Seasoning hocks: simmer one hock with beans, greens, or soup for a few hours. Skip added salt in the pot.
  • Hillbilly Prosciutto: ready to eat. Serve thin slices straight onto a board or a biscuit.

who ever is in your shipping department needs to look at a map and explain how they figured a package would ground ship to Alaska in 3 days. the package should have gone air parcel then ot would have gotten here in 3 days not the almost 5 weeks. do you really believe that the meat is still good

Hello, thanks for reaching out. What you ordered is actually shelf stable and perfectly capable of traveling ground for as long as needed. Because the meat is salt cured it does not need to be refrigerated. Thank you!

Country Ham Center Steak

Cook as printed on directions. Product was salty AF.!!!! We’ll try the second package see if it’s any better. Disappointed so far.

Hey Gary - these country hams are very salty by nature. If you don't have a lot of experience with them and know that you want to have less salt the next time we would strongly suggest soaking the ham in milk, coffee, or warm water to draw out some of the salt before cooking. Usually 10-30 minutes will make a big difference. Hope this helps!
